She was best known for her portrayal of Agrippina, the mother of Emperor Nero, in the BBC serial I, Claudius in 1976. Aside from her iconic role in I, Claudius, Young also played Miss Scatcherd in the 1970 film Jane Eyre, Eileen Clancy in the 1975 TV series Looking For Clancy, and Dot Wilmington in the TV series Hazell.
