Barbara Young, an English actress known for her versatility and acting prowess, passed away on April 27, 2023, at the age of 92. She was born on February 9, 1931, and left a remarkable legacy in the entertainment industry.

Young’s career spanned decades, and she appeared in numerous TV series, films, and soap operas. She was best known for her portrayal of Agrippina, the mother of Emperor Nero, in the BBC serial I, Claudius in 1976. Her performance in this series was highly praised, and it cemented her reputation as an accomplished actress.

Aside from her iconic role in I, Claudius, Young also played Miss Scatcherd in the 1970 film Jane Eyre, Eileen Clancy in the 1975 TV series Looking For Clancy, and Dot Wilmington in the TV series Hazell. Her range as an actress was evident in the diverse roles she played, from historical characters to modern-day barmaids.

In 1979, Young appeared in On Giant’s Shoulders for the BBC, and in 1998, she began her long stint on the soap opera Family Affairs.
